 Adored and feted by the media, this festival -which has taken an almost mythical status since Ernest Hemingway first wrote about it in “For whom the bells toll”- takes place in Pamplona in July of every year. The joy, spontaneity and excitement are almost tangible. The images, broadcasted worldwide, of the “encierros”, when the crowds run along the narrow streets with the raging wild bulls, arouse an almost morbid curiosity in the spectator. And when Pamplona’s Mayor lights the “chupinazo” rocket he’s giving the green light for a time of totally letting-your-hair-down! Inhibitions and social niceties are flung to the wayside, and total indulgence is the order of the day, with the whole community identifying themselves completely with their Patron Saint with entire families in their colourful red and white costumes participating in the craziness.
The warmth and simplicity of the Navarra people will also serve to enhance this amazing experience for you. For maximum enjoyment, we will be staying in a charming rural hotel just on the outskirts of Pamplona, close enough for all the fun but far away enough for a little peace and quiet when you want to rest! We will visit a local “peña”, one of the organising committees of the festival, to give you an insight into all the behind-the-scenes activities in the community, and to top it all, provide you with first-class seats at all the best activities and concerts.
