Picasso: First Steps into Cubism |
Thematic Routes |
If the young Pablo Ruiz Picasso, having left his birth city Malaga, had not experienced the social and intellectual revolution of the turn of the century in the eclectic and troubled city of Barcelona, he probably wouldn't have painted "Les demoiselles d'Avinyó" in that year 1907.
The art school of La Llotja, "Els 4 Gats" tavern and the reial cercle artístic as well as his interests in what was happening in Paris, were important influences in the vision of the master who was one of the founders of abstract art. A journey into the Bergueda county will define how contact with nature and native people of this mountainous area contributed to his interest for sculpture and required his expressive evolution. The experience can be enriched with an extension to Malaga, as recently, Picasso's house has been opened to the public and the Malaga Picasso Museum offers the opportunity to view works previously never shown. |
