The importance of this experience could seem obvious, as we are speaking about the greatest architect of the turn of the 20th century, as far as Modern style is concerned. Lluís Domènech I Montaner (Barcelona 1850 – Barcelona 1923) was a politician and architecture professor, with a notorious influence on the works of his time. Among his numerous projects, two stand out as UNESCO World Heritage since year 1997: the “Palau de la Música Catalana” and the Hospital of Sant Pau i de la Santa Creu”.
We definitely want to know his main works, but also we’ll access some private houses in small groups to be able to observe and feel their interiors as Catalans would in that time. Between the Barcelonan Eixample district and his summer resort in Canet de Mar, we’ll understand how the Modernism symbolizes a period of economic and social splendour, that marked broadly the beginning of the 20th century. And we evidently shall overnight in a hotel located in a Palace that he designed. In the heart of elegance. |
